Motor

Rovium installs a Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) OR Large Drive Unit (LDU) For your conversion. The specifications are as follows: [SDU 295 Hp 243 Ft-Lb], [LDU 495 Hp 332 Ft-Lb]. Every motor we use has less than 50K miles and is inspected and certified by a third party for mechanical and electrical performance with a one year warranty. Electric motors have minimal moving parts making them far more reliable with longer life than gas motors. Rovium encourages independent research as numerous independent sources report 300,000 or more miles on Tesla motors without issue..

Battery

The battery is comprised of new High Discharge 600A LiFePo4 74AH Prismatic Cells manufactured by Lithium Energy Japan. The lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry is much safer than standard NMC cells. The cells are new and rated for 4000-7000 cycles depending on charging rate and conditions. While these cells are slightly heavier than Li-Ion, their reliability and performance is perfect for aftermarket applications. In order to keep the battery safe, Rovium uses a Dilithium Battery Management System (BMS) and Elcon CAN BUS enabled on board charger. This system protects your battery from overcharging, over discharging, and overheating. Additionally, all Rovium conversions are equipped with adjustable regenerative braking to get the most out of each charge.

Charging

Your vehicle will be capable of charging with a standard NACS Level 2 Tesla Port at a rate of 6.6 KwH. This charge setup is capable of completing a full charge in 5-15 hours depending on battery size (30 kWh to 90 kWh). If you would like a faster charging rate, your vehicle can be upgraded to a maximum charge speed of 19.8 kWh for a full charge in 2-5 Hr over a Level 2 NACS Tesla port. While all Rovium vehicles are capable of charging on public chargers, your conversion comes with an at home charger. We highly recommend the convenience of charging at home. To charge at home, all that is required is to have a 220V NEMA 14-50 outlet (washer dryer outlet) installed. While local electrician rates vary, typical rates are $300-500 to install the outlet and charge at home.

Drivetrain

Your Tesla motor mates with a custom engineered and fabricated De-Dion axle. This axle is made of a 3 inch x 0.25 wall A400 tube and has been extensively tested for safety and durability. The axle utilizes Porsche 930 CV joints and Porsche wheel bearings for reliable transfer of power from the motor to the wheels. The De-Dion axle comes equipped with Wilwood GM Metric calipers and rotors as well as Tesla Model 3 Electric parking brakes for reliable stopping power. The axle is sprung by Slam Specialties airbags and QA1 adjustable shocks for a smooth and modern ride. Our number one priority is safety. Depending on the configuration of the base vehicle, Rovium might need to install a modern independent Front Suspension (IFS) to safely handle the weight and power of the conversion. The front suspension is determined on a case by case basis. In general terms, any vehicle built after 1970 will be equipped with a safe and reliable front suspension requiring no modifications. The frame of your vehicle is not a concern as the reaction forces of the Tesla motor act about the long axis of your vehicle as opposed to a gas engine that wants to twist the frame. As a result, the vast majority of stock vehicle frames can safely handle the torque and power of an 495 Hp LDU. As a safety precaution, Rovium will conduct a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on the geometry of your frame to ensure it is safe.

Electronics

In addition to the 400V High Voltage (HV) pack, your vehicle will have standard 12V lead acid battery and a 1000W DC-DC converter to ensure reliable operation of standard 12V electronics. The brake switch and accelerator pedal are stock Tesla components. All motor commands are processed through an aftermarket controller made by EV controls called T2C. These are highly reliable controllers that allow numerous options for gauges, and motor tuning.
